PVG Scheme

The Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 came into effect on 1 April 2025, introducing changes to how we manage and assess roles involving contact with vulnerable groups.

Staff who supervise students or Visiting Scholars are responsible for ensuring they notify the relevant staff if their student or visiting scholar will be working with children or protected adults as part of their work/research for the university.  The PVG check will need to be in place before the project commences/person is engaged.

For all students (UG, PGR, PGT, Summer School) please contact Kendra Laird, Admissions Administrator [email protected]

For all Visiting Scholars, please contact Kara Kinnaird [email protected]

Open Access Policy

The Institutional Open Access policy can be found on the University website.

Research with NHS

When acting as ‘Sponsor’ of research involving the NHS, the University expects researchers to consider the existing SOPs of the appropriate NHS Board and where there are SOPs relating to the planned research, to adopt (or, in consultation with the University and NHS R&D office, adapt) the SOPs of the ‘host’ Board.

Trusted Research

The University cannot progress nor conclude any research or funding arrangements without full engagement with all matters relating to Trusted Research. Some funders are already asking for explicit confirmation that relevant processes are underway or completed, on a project-by-project basis, before they release funding.  Full information including the link to the Trusted Research Tool can be found on the University’s Trusted Research pages.  Completion of the Trusted Research Tool and uploading the outcome to Worktribe is now mandatory for all applications.
