PGR recruitment and application

PGR recruitment and application roles and responsibilities for applicant, supervisor(s), PGR Administrator.  The applicant should complete their application via the online portal following the university guidance for requirements along with any additional supplementary information as outlined in the advert.

PhD opportunities will be advertised on the school website and findaphd.com, please complete the school template and return to [email protected] to get this on the relevant sites.  If advertising a Global Office funded PhD Studentship, please use their template and copy pgmed@ in to your submission to the Global Office.  All applications must go through the University’s online portal.

PGR interviews – the School currently follows HR guidance with gender-balanced panel membership and all interviews held online via Teams unless it is a funder requirement to hold them in person.  Any visits/interviews in person costs should be met by the supervisor or applicant.  A school PGR interview guidance document has been created to provide further details on the school process including shortlisting, panel composition, interview structure and tasks.

 

PhD by Portfolio

Staff route

The PhD by portfolio of published work is a route to a PhD degree that is open to staff, including honorary staff, who have been employed or associated with the University for a minimum of three continuous years immediately prior to submission of the portfolio. Candidates must continue to be staff or in an honorary post through the time of the examination of the published work.  The University policy

Individuals interested in pursuing a PhD by portfolio of published work should initially discuss their intention with the Director of Postgraduate Studies.
