United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE)

Students who wish to write the USMLE step 1 exam at the end of their BSc Hons will be supported by the Medical School, which is an accredited Overseas Medical School in USMLE terms. The USMLE exam is controlled by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
St Andrews students wishing to write the USMLE must consider the work load involved. Anecdotal evidence suggest that to obtain a ‘good’ pass at step 1 the BSc (Hons) student will be 1st class or the very top of 2.1 standard. They will need to commit multiple weeks to revision but most importantly they will need to study how the USMLE exam is written and conduct extensive practice. This may involve 8 to 10 weeks full time study.

Before planning to write the exam all students are invited to consult with the School Manager for advice.
