LT Service Portfolio – IT Facilities and Event Support

The IT Facilities and Event Support service comprises the following sub-areas:

  • Desktop configuration and support – PC
  • Desktop configuration and support – MAC
  • Desktop backups
  • Printing and scanning
  • Equipment loan
  • Teaching rooms and presentation facilities
  • The student PC classrooms (ARC and CS bedhead PCs)
  • Ad-hoc event support

Further details on each sub-area:
Desktop configuration and support – PC

  • Configuration and support of MS Windows and standard desktop applications
    – on university owned devices
    – specialist non-standard applications are supported on a best efforts basis
  • Investigation of hardware and software issues
    – on university owned devices
  • Facilitate the upgrade of desktop software to latest university build standards
  • Migration of users to alternative hardware devices
  • Help with connection to wired network and eduroam wifi network
    – on university owned devices
    – on non-university devices, where they are running a supported up-to-date operating system and are securely configured with antivirus software etc.
  • Liaison with IT Services, if required, to progress additional support requirements

Desktop configuration and support – MAC

  • Configuration and support of MACs and standard applications
    – on university owned devices
    – specialist non-standard applications are supported on a best efforts basis
  • Investigation of hardware and software issues
    – on university owned devices
  • Facilitate the upgrade of MAC devices to latest university build standards
  • Migration of users to alternative hardware devices
  • Help with connection to wired network and eduroam wifi network
    – on university owned devices
    – on non-university devices, where they are running a supported up-to-date operating system and are securely configured with antivirus software etc.
  • Liaison with IT Services, if required, to progress additional support requirements

Desktop backups

  • Configuration and support of a desktop backup solution
    – on university owned devices
    – for staff

Printing and scanning

  • Help with connecting to the university uniprint service
    – from university owned devices
    – non-university devices are supported on a best efforts basis
  • Help with use of the university uniprint devices
  • Local management, on behalf of IT Services, of the uniprint device toner
  • Configuration and support of local and network connected non-uniprint printers
    – on school approved devices
  • Liaison with IT Services, if required, to progress additional support requirements

Equipment loan

  • Provision of laptops for loan
    – for staff and students
  • Provision of miscellaneous devices for loan
    – as available, including but not limited to: projectors, video cameras, SD card readers, USB hubs, webcams etc.
  • Help with the basic setup of loaned devices for school meetings and events

Teaching rooms and presentation facilities

  • Manage the continued availability of presentation facilities in the teaching rooms
    – the teaching rooms are: lecture theatre, 2 x seminar rooms, 13 x tutorial rooms, 6 x interview rooms, café area microphone, clinical skills, mrc and arc presentation facilities, and multipurpose lab
  • Support the use of the presentation facilities for school related events
  • Provision of guidance and training in the use of the presentation facilities
  • Liaison with IT Services to ensure the presentation facilities are fit for purpose

The student PC classrooms

  • Manage the continued availability of the student PCs in the ARC
  • Manage the continued availability of the bedhead PCs in clinical skills, the MRC, and the sim man rooms

Ad-hoc event support

  • Support for ad-hoc school related events
    – including but not limited to: parents and graduation receptions, ad-hoc lectures etc
    – supporting the use of facilities and providing ad-hoc photography
